Tony Hagen at the Sacred Heart hall in Effingham Sunday. Mrs. Hagen is a sister of Mr. Overbeck. Mr.
and Mrs. Delaine Sowers and daughter Pamela, of Effingham, were Sunday dinner guests at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Mearl B. Sowers.

Mr. Leturno is employed at the John Boos block factory in Effingham. Gail and Tommy Hutmacher, who have been spending the last two weeks with their grandparents, returned home with their parents Monday.
Dan Schorman of Effingham was in Dieterich Tuesday morning on business. Wayne Behrns was a caller at the home of his parents Monday. -000 Joseph Slates Enroute Home From Tokyo Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Slate are enroute home from Tokyo, Japan.
They leave Tokyo the night of September 5, arriving in New York on September 17. They will Have stop-overs in Hong Kong, Beirut, Rome and Paris. While in Rome they will visit with Rev. Germain Schwab, O.F.M., of St. Joseph's Seminary, who is studying there.
Upon their return to this they will be living in New Haven, where Mr. Slate will attend Yale University. Mrs. Slate is the former Patricia Griffin, daughter of Mr. and Mrs.
J. H. Griffin of Teutopolis. 000- BILL POTTEBAUM LEAVES FOR MUSIC SCHOOL IN NEW YORK Bill Pottebaum of Teutopolis will leave this Thursday for the Eastman School of Music in Rochester, N. where he will study for his Master's Degree in Musical Composition.
Bill, who is the son of Mr. and Mrs. William Pottebaum, is a graduate of Teutopolis high school and has been employed as musical director at the Kinmundy high school for the past two years. -000- FORMER. LOCAL RESIDENTS MOVE TO MATTOON Mr.

ATTENDS CONFERENCE FOR HOMEMAKING TEACHERS Mrs. Winkler, Dieterich high school home economics instructor, attended the twenty-fourth annual state conference for Illinois Vocational Homemaking Teachers held August 22-24 at Illinois State Normal University at Normal, Illinois. Several representatives of large firms dealing with the various phases of home economics were present to lecture and answer questions.

Meyer of Bogota. The famous "Dorothy Van" Madonnas and a great variety of beautiful gift articles, including sets of dishes, made to order are metalically painted and glazed erclusively by this lady. Her products are excellent representatives wherever they go. -000- MACHINE GUN COMPANY 130TH INFANTRY VETERANS ASSOCIATION Comrades: The 4th Illinois 130th Infantry reunion will be held at Paris, Illinois, Saturday and Sunday, September 28 and 29, 1957.
It will not be in Octo. ber as stated in the 33rd Div. News. Someone had his dates crossed. Headquarters will be at the Paris Hotel on Route 1, which is Main street.
The banquet will be Saturday evening at the V.F.W. hall nearby. Reservations may be made at Paris Hotel, Morris House, (run by Lt. Don Morris) or Hotel France. Paris is the home of our two senior officers, Captain Grady O'Hair and First Lieutenant Carl McKinney.
MeKinney is handling the arrangements at Paris and promises us a nice room for Machine Gun headquarters. The Legion and Elks clubrooms will be open to us, but look first for Machine Gunners in our dugout. The gang would rather sit around and visit with each other. Since our last reunion we have lost three of our gang, Henry Wiechert, Memphis, died Nov. 9, 1956; Herman Davis, Lake Wales, April 25, 1957; Joe Hutmacher, Quincy, July 14, 1957.
Percy Hubbard has retired from his job as conductor for the Illinois Central. He lives at 7225 Dobson Chicago. Percy says will not be at the reunion 'because he has to stay home and care for the dog and bird while his son Bill goes to Montana. 'Nerts! He is just too old to cut the mustard anymore, or thinks 'he is. Bet he changes his mind.
The last we heard of Dick Schroeder was Christmas. He and Alice were in Miami. Hope his broken bones have mended SO he can be with us. Who else could recite "The Face on the Barroom Floor" like Dick We see in the Dieterich Gazette Mr. and Mrs.
Chris Steffen has returned to Dieterich to live. Hope they can be with us this year. Last year McNally brought some beautiful movies. of Grand Canyon. Caroline Strom brought some color slides of Yellowstone.
They were wonderful, too. Hope they bring them again this year. Your secretary took four rolls in Yellowstone in July only to discover the camera shutter was working in reverse. Going through Cheyenne, Wyoming we located Clarence Cornwell but did not get to talk to him. He lives at 1216 East 24th Street.
We still have 98 on our mailing list. Probably 25 will attend the reunion. We hope more, but feel safe in predicting 25. 1917-1957. Forty years.

Martha Kibler and daughter Foria of Chicago. -000- NEW BUSES PURCHASED The bus drivers of Dieterich community unit No. 30 met at 7:30 p.m. at the Dieterich community high school building. Forms to be filled in were given to the drivers, and the various routes and problems were discussed at the meeting.
The Dieterich unit has purchased two new 1957 46-passenger Chevrolet school buses, which were delivered last Friday. Unit 30 bus drivers are: Ernest LeBel, Herbert Lanthorn, Delbert Bloemker, Howard Bohnhoff Lowell Hgigins, Ruth Wright, Leo McMahon and Harlan Mellendorf. 000- MISSION FESTIVAL AT ST. JOHN'S SUNDAY The annual mission festival of St. John's Lutheran church three miles south of Dieterich will be celebrated next Sunday, September 8.
Two services will be held, one at 2:30 p.m.,, the other at 7:30 p.m. The Rev. John Rozok of Zion Lutheran church southeast of Altamont will preach in the afternoon and the Rev. Earl Benning of the Bethlehem Lutheran church will give the sermon in the evening service. These guest speakers will bring special messages concerning the duty of every Christian to participate in the spreading of the Gospel of Christ.
A special offering for Christian missions will be received in both services. A cordial invitation to attend these services is herewith extended to all friends and neighbors of St. John's Lutheran church. Refreshments will be sold on the church grounds. W.

The afternoon was spent in visiting, taking pictures and playing games. 000- Hagen's Observe Golden Wedding Monday, Sept. 2 Mr. and Mrs. Tony Hagen of Effingham celebrated their Golden Wedding Monday, September 2, with a high mass at the Sacred Heart church.
Four grandsons served the mass. They were Ambrose and Raymond Doedtman, Donald Pulsford, and David Probst. Two of their sons-in-law were ushers, Larry Hoelscher and Dennis Westendorf. Following the mass the family was served a breakfast at the Sacred Heart school hall. A dinner was served to about 100 relatives at noon.
Open house was held from 2 to 5 p.m. Mr. and Mrs. Hagen are parents of seven children, 18 grandchildren, and six great-grandchildren. All were present for the reception.
Also present for the celebration was Mrs. Hagen's sister, Mrs. Catherine Arpe and her daughter and husband from. Los Angeles, Calif. They spent last week with Mr.
and Mrs. Hagen and left for home Tuesday, September 2nd. The Hagens received many nice gifts and cards. One of the cherished gifts was the papal blessing from the Pope which was requested by their children. Pat Niemann Leaves Thursday for Convent Patricia Niemann left Thursday for Santa Maria in Ripa where she will enter as a postulant in the Order of the School Sisters of Notre Dame.
She was accompanied there by her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Joe Niemann and daughters, Barbara and Carolyn, and Mrs. William Meyer all of St. Marys.
Miss Niemann has another sister in the order, Sr. Mary Ronald who is teaching in New Orleans. 1. West Town Hall. 000 Mrs. Alice Fuelle Dies August 29th; Funeral Is Saturday Mrs. Alice Fuelle, 78, a lifelong resident of Teutopolis, died at 9:15 a.m.
Thursday, August 29, at the home of her son and daughter-in-ebration law, Mr. and Mrs. Virgil Fuelle. She had been ill for some time. She was born May 21, 1879, the daughter of the late Mr.
and Mrs. William Tolch. She was a member of St. Ann's Sodality of St. Francis church, Teutopolis.
Surviving are one son, Virgil of Teutopolis, a brother, Sam Tolch of Effingham, a sister, Elizabeth Bigler of Neoga, grandchildren, Mrs. Fred (Marilyn) Meyer, Jack, Jim, and Sue Fuelle, and one great grandson, David Meyer. Preceding her in death besides her husband, Leo, was a daughter, Agnes. Funeral services were held at 9 a.m. Saturday at St.
Francis church with burial in the parish cemetery. Rev. Gordon Knese, O.F.M., pastor, officiated. The body lay in state at the Habing funeral home in Teutopolis until time for services. Pallbearers were nephews, Ralph, Harold and Edwin Fulle of Teutopolis, and Bill, Harry and Myron Tolch of Effingham.
-000 Two Area Girls To Be Aspirants At Ripa Jo Ellen Esker, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Norbert Esker, and Mary Cecile Zerrusen, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Edwin Zerrusen both of Teutopolis left Sunday for Santa Maria in Ripa where they will enter the aspiranture.
There will be 82 in the class, an increase of 20 over last year. Miss Esker was accompanied to St. Louis by her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Esker and sisters, Cindy and Dorothy and brothers, Freddy and Tony.

Supt. of Schools.
Registration for the class will be held on Tuesday, September 10, at Effingham High School at 6:15 p.m. There is no prerequisite for this course although it would be wise that the student have had General Psychology. 000 PLAYFORD McMANAWAY TO ATTEND SOUTHERN ILLINOIS U. ARMY AND WOMAN'S ARMY CORPS Bob Livingston, the local U. S. Army recruiting sergeant will be at the Post Office, Dieterich, Fridays between the hours of 11:30 a.m. to 12 Noon for the purpose of interviewing applicants for the U. S.
Army and Womans Army Corps. Plan To Honor Doctor Goebel Sunday, Sept. 8 Friends of Dr. Albert E. Goebel of Montrose plan to honor him at an open house and reception Sunday, Sept.
8, from 2 to 5 p.m. at the Montrose public school. The event will be the community's expression of appreciation to the physician for his years of service to this area. Dr. Goebel and his immediate family will be the honored guests.
An invitation has been extended to all area physicians and their families to be guests of the community at the open house. The remainder of those attending will work together as hosts. Registration is planned for all attending with special identification for those who were Dr. Goebel's pupils. Dr.
taught seven years in the Montrose schools to earn funds to pay for his medical training. There also will be special identification for those attending who were brought into the world by Dr. Goebel. No formal program is planned, but there will be some introductions of guests and special music. Rev.
K. F. Frankenstein, a former pastor of the St. Paul Lutheran church between Montrose and Dieterich and now pastor of Trinity Lutheran church in Decatur, will be master of ceremonies. The community will serve refreshments of home-made cake and punch.
Dr. Goebel was notified of the celwhen Mayor Fay Morr presented him with an official proclamation, expressing the community's thanks for his services. Copies of the proclamation have been posted in prominent spots in the village. A general practitioner, Dr. Goebel has served the Montrose and Dieterich areas for 41 years.
He is still active in practice, with no plans for retirement in the immediate future. 000- Dieterich Grade School Announce First Graders The Dieterich grade school first graders for 1957-1958 are: Greg Garbe, Larry Hardiek, Floria Bohnhoff, Kerry Kuhring, Darrell Horn, Sharon Kay Hartke, Jimmy Flack, Glenda Kester, Jimmy Meinhart, Darrell Zimdars, Wilma Wohltman, Georgie Steppe, Joan Passalaqua, Charlie Niemerg, Linda, White, Ralph Ruholl, Steve Webb, Davis Draves, Ellen Kingery, Martha Meyer, Paul Chester Field, Patrick Tays, Patsy Worman, and Kathy Bricker. -000 Five Persons Killed Monday In Auto Crash Five persons were killed in an accident which occurred Sunday about three miles south of Mason orf Route 37 where their crashed and exploded into flames. Killed were Garland Dishman, Billie Dickson and Willie Coleman all of Chicago and Imogene Richardson and her infant son, Redgie Richardson of Charleston, Mo. State patrolman George Baker said the car was wrecked about 5:15 a.m.
Sunday when it left the road, went 450 feet down a bank, jumped a stream and plowed into a 36-foothigh embankment. The car then fell back into the stream where its gas tank apparently exploded. Effingham County Coroner Dr. George C. Wood said the bodies were so badly burned they only could be identified by articles on them and by finding out who had been riding in the automobile, Authorities discovered the identity of most of the dead by checking back on the auto's license number.
-000 Area Girls Leave For Convent Sunday Miss Rita Vahling and Betty Overbeck of Teutopolis. and Kathleen Bushur and Clarita Schumacher of Sigel will leave September 8th for Joliet where they will enter as postulants in the Order of the Sisters of St. Francis. Miss Vahling and Miss Bushur graduated from Teutopolis high school the past year, Miss Schumachgraduated from St. Francis Preparatory School at Joliet, and Miss Overbeck had completed one year at St.
Francis College. Miss Vahling is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Ferd Vahling, Miss Overbeck is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs.
Ralph Overbeck, Miss Bushur, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Clarence Bushur, and Miss Schumacher, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Norbert Schumacher.
