Saddam Hoesseins gestoorde zoon Uday is niet het ideale filmpersonage, en dus draait het in The Devil's Double zogenaamd om Latif Yahia, een argeloze Irakees die gedwongen wordt op te treden als Uday's dubbelganger. Zogenaamd, want al is de film gebaseerd op een boek van Yahia, Tamahori blijkt meer geïnteresseerd in Uday, en in 's mans liederlijke feestjes en wrede escapades. De politieke situatie in Irak is slechts decor voor een film die een kruising wil zijn tussen de softporno van Caligula en het extreme geweld van Scarface.
